BRAZILIAN MEGA DRIVE CHAMPIONSHIP

On 21st September 2008, Brazil became the third nation to join the International community of Mega Drive Championships. With Europe ready to brace itself for the European Mega Drive Championship on 26th October 2008, the addition of the Brazilian domestic is likely to fuel the fire of desire for a Mega Drive World Championship sometime in the future!

Inspired by the Do Além Tornaments, the Brazilian Mega Drive Championship was structured in a similar manner. The tournament was contested over nine rounds, with one game played per round and each member nominating one of the tournament games. Each round was generally played in a knockout format, except for Sonic 3 and Super Hang On, and the winner of each round was awarded three-points, second place scored two and the member in third received one-point. The winner was the player who earned the most points following the completion of the nine rounds.

LEAGUE REVIEW:

By the end of the Fourth Round it was Edward who appeared to have the competition in the metaphorical bag. With three first-placed finishes, from the first four rounds, his ten-points gave him an advantage over his rivals; Aldo had seven-points, Max had three-points, Bruno and Felipe both had two, while the others had yet to score. What happened then was a dip in form for Edward while a more consistent Aldo was able to score one first-placed finish and three second-placed finishes over the next four rounds. It was this form that secured Aldo the competition with one game remaining, as he scored points in all of the nine tournament games except Sonic 3. The final round (Arcade Classic: Ultrapong) was more for pride as Edward narrowed the winning margin to just two-points. Bruno, who finished in third, was a long way behind the top two. He took third-place after claiming two-points in the final round and relegating Max to fourth. Geovani ended up in fifth, with three-points, which he acquired by winning Round Eight (Blockout). Felipe, Rodrigo Mosquem and Ozlean accumulated just two-points each throughout the competition, while Rodrigo Manzano held up the table with no-points - although he came close to scoring in both rounds four and eight.
