THE SECOND BRAZILIAN MEGA DRIVE CHAMPIONSHIP

For a long time we wondered whether it would happen... it has been nearly eighteen month since Brazil hosted a Mega Drive Championship, the Do Além contests that inspired the Brazilian Mega Drive tournament continued and this offered a ray of sunlight that one day Mega Drive Championshipary would return to Brazil. It was on 17th April 2010 that the silence was addressed and five warriors assembled to challenge for the title of Champion. Sadly, there was a noticeable abscence in the form of Aldo, the winner of the First Championship, however, like Germany and Brazil before them (whose second tournaments did not feature the winner of the first) they continued regardless and the opportunity was forged for another to become Champion.

Fifteen high octane action games commenced in a line-up rapidly different from the 2008 Tournament, although the competition structure remained identicle. The event began with an explosive bout on Eternal Champions and ran until all was decided in a ulitmate finger pumping frenzy on Space Invaders '91. There were some incredible high-lights in the Second Mega Drive Championship; Ozlean's 340,100 score on Crüe Ball, Edward's perfect against Bruno on Mortal Kombat 3 before his dominance in the ultra confusing fighter Dragon Ball Z, Felipe's controversial death in Sonic 2 and all the while the fizzing rivalry between Max and Bruno remained an undercurrent in the competition. By the end of round thirteen (Space Harrier II) the race for the title was finely ballanced between three of the five competitors. Ozelena and Felipe were now out of the running, but continued to fight to avoid the stigma of finishing in last while Bruno, Edward and Max held the top three positions with just one point between them. Following round fourteen (Virtua Fighter 2) Bruno headed the competition with 20-points, behind him was Max with 19 and Edward with 18, but who would become the Champion was entirely speculation. So, onto the final round (Space Invaders '91), Edward showed his quality and racked up an awesome 24,760 score, but Bruno still had to play and had to rank second or beat Edward's score to attain the title - he did so! With 11,320 he acheived second in the game and succeeded Aldo as Mega Drive Champion.
