Captain Maltby amazed the onlookers when he lifted the Knockout Shield at the Fifteenth Tournament. He had been tipped for an immediate relegation and return to Division Two, but Captain Maltby retained his Division One status by a single point - and even won his first game of World Cup Italia '90, after sixteen attempts. In the Challenge he progressed into Round 3, where he was beaten to third place by Earl Holbrook. Captain Maltby original stint in the Mega Drive Championships were much less successful, indeed, prior to the Fourteenth Tournament he had never finish above last place and had won just four of fifty-nine games. He had 'retired' following the Fifth Championship but returned for the Thirteenth Tournament, where once again he finished last. He was relegated to Division Two for the Fourteenth Championships and it was in the lower league Captain Maltby first showed he was better than previous tournaments had indicated, as he was promoted back to Division One, finishing in second place. Captain Maltby holds the longest drawing and losing streaks of any tournament member.
